My primary goal as your child’s teacher is to foster a lifelong love of reading. There is a shift in reading in Third grade. We go from learning to read, to READING TO LEARN. We will develop a community in our classroom in which we discuss our favorite authors and characters. We will compare new stories to books we have read before and will learn new facts from nonfiction. After years of teaching, gathering for our daily read aloud continues to be my favorite time of day! I hope you are able to establish the same type of environment in your home.
3rd Grade reading has several components: ELA/LITERACY: Reading Workshop Schoolwide Units: Fictional Study, Non-Fiction Genre, Poetry Writing Workshop Schoolwide Units: Literary Non-Fiction, Biography, Patricia Polacco Author Study *Instruction also includes literacy integrated into content areas (social studies, science), word study, grammar and spelling We address and develop each of these needs through daily Read Alouds, Guided Reading, Centers, Independent Reading, and Buddy Reading. Reinforcing our goals at home is vital for your child's reading success. Travel Brochure Project: docs.google.com/presentation/d/1GvWjYmivUmBiAqeZKA-Gn3AAbwf3Q9JCevazn_gGfmc/edit?usp=sharing |
